Some day a hotel room keycard was bound to come in handy...

A top quality ocean racing bodge-it, as photographed by Mike Golding. This is his repair to a cracked gate valve for the aft ballast tank, one that transfers water from between forward and aft compartments. After being hit by a flying jerrycan of emergency water in the big Biscay storm it began leaking under pressure. The lashings are impressive, but the pièce de résistance is an unreturned hotel room keycard from Bilbao bonded over the crack.

Good to know those cards have their uses!
