A new regatta for classic superyachts will be staged in Falmouth this summer

There will be a great chance to see some of the world’s finest classic superyachts in action this summer during the inaugural Pendennis Cup which will be held during the Henri Lloyd Falmouth week from 11 to 15 August. Details of the event will be officially announced at the Collins Stewart London Boat Show tomorrow

Several large classic yachts including Lulworth, the largest gaff cutter in the world, the Fife Bermudan cutter Cambria, the 19 Metre gaff cutter Mariquita and the 1915 Nat Herreshoff schooner Mariette, plan to be in the UK for a series of events including Skandia Cowes Week and, for some, the Fife regatta in Scotland. The programme should allow them to assemble in Falmouth for this inaugural superyacht regatta being run by Pendennis Shipyard and the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association.

The yachts are keen to sail in Falmouth where they can find deep water in Carrick Roads and Falmouth Bay and much improved facilities in the town itself where the new Port Falmouth Marina at A&P Falmouth will be able to offer alongside berthing for a number of large yachts.

Toby Allies, head of sales and marketing at Pendennis said: ” We hope that the cup will be a chance for the superyacht community to fully appreciate what Falmouth and the surrounding area can offer them.” Mark Osborn. Chairman of POFSA pointed out that Falmouth had a rich history of running classic yacht regatta. “It would be great to revive this tradition and put Falmouth back on the superyacht map.” Check out www.pofsa.co.uk and www.pendennis.com
