The 40-metre trimaran sails across Mediterranean in record time

The maxi-trimaran Banque Populaire V has set a new trans-Mediterranean Sea record from Marseille, France to Carthage, Tunisia. The north to south crossing took the team 14 hours 20 minutes and 34 seconds – 2 hours 47 minutes and 47 seconds faster than Groupama 3’s previous record.

The new record time is subject to confirmation by the WSSRC.

The 40m trimaran left Marseille at 03:56:56 GMT Saturday morning (15 May) and finished in Carthage at 18:17:30 GMT that evening, travelling at an average speed of 33.24 knots over the 477 mile course. The boat’s fasted recorded speed was 43.1 knots.
