Experienced yachtsmen are being sought for sailing trips geared towards blind or visually impaired travellers

Traveleyes, a unique travel company that runs tours for sighted and blind travellers, is seeking qualified yacht skippers for their next sailing holiday.

The organisation, now in its tenth year, specialises in group holidays for blind and sighted travellers alike, and have now branched out into sailing holidays.

In September this year, the company is organising a flotilla holiday along the Dalmatian coastline, visiting Rogoznica, Split, Hvar, Vis and Primosten.

Skippers and first mates are being sought to join the trip, with a heavily discounted price on the holiday in return for their sailing skills. Qualified yachtsmen are needed to man the yachts and teach the blind travellers how to sail, but in turn would enjoy a cruising holiday for less than half the price they would normally expect to pay.

The primary function of Traveleyes is to enable blind people to enjoy independent world travel on their own terms.

The company was founded by Amar Latif, who lost 95 per cent of his sight through a genetic condition by the age of 20 and subsequently discovered that access to world travel for a blind person was fraught with pitfalls, rejections and restrictions, so he created his own travel company.

“I am blind, but this didn’t stop me from wanting to see the world. However, when attempting to fulfil my own travel aspirations, companies would turn me away time and time again, because of my visual impairment. I realised that if you want something in this world which doesn’t exist, you either have to do without, or build it yourself”

Over the last ten years he has travelled to more than 60 countries to put together a portfolio of interesting holidays for partially sighted people.

Traveleyes Sailing HolidaysThe group flotilla is planned for 19-26 September 2015. Any qualified skippers interested in joining the trip are being offered a substantially discounted holiday price of £499 for eight days (full price £999, inc flights) in return for their participation in bringing the beautiful Croatian islands within the reach of all.
