Celeb hairdresser Trevor Sorbie launches charity awareness spinnaker at Cowes

Participants and spectators at Cowes Week may have noticed a significant spinnaker now being flown from Boomerang, an Adams 10 (unique to Europe) racing in Class 4 IRC. Emblazoned with ‘My New Hair – by salons that care’, the kite was launched by hairdressing icon Trevor Sorbie MBE in Cowes yesterday. Named British Hairdresser of the Year four times, the former hairdresser to the Queen has now devoted his career to helping women with cancer by cutting wigs, and educating salons around the country in this skill. Sorbie set up My New Hair in June 2006, a non-profit organisation (now with charity status) to offer advice and wig customisation to clients suffering from medical hair loss, ‘to help give them back a little confidence’.
Following a Nurse education event and a wig-cutting for a cancer patient at Southampton General Hospital yesterday, Sorbie then sailed on Boomerang to launch the spinnaker, sponsored by haircare product firm Herb UK. See www.mynewhair.org for more details.
